Definition of a Blog
Wiktionary defines blog as:
A personal or corporate website in the form of an online journal, with new entries appearing in sequence as they are written, especially as dealing with reflections or opinion, and typically incorporating links to other articles.
I reflect back and look at blogs I’ve seen in the past and a lot of the smaller ones are more personal. Something like this one. You have the links blogs that are there to generate cash. They usually feature complete albums, songs, videos, movies, etc to download. Blogger is riddled with these. Zsharemovies is an example. You have the I hate everything blog that goes and tries to gossip about every news article you see. You know… the MediaTakeout’s, the Bossip’s, the PerezHilton’s. I could go on and on.
Point is, everyone is looking for attention. The “blog” is the friend of the writer. The friend that is not there to hear them ramble on and on about their personal problems. The friend that will let you ramble your little heart out about that zshare porn you uploaded, that Coldplay album you heard, that Tim McGraw video you saw where he threw the fan out, or that Amy Winehouse video where she punched a fan and called Kanye West a cunt. The “blog” is the friend that was never there.
Too bad the blog can’t toss around a baseball or talk back. Instead, your friend, with its great memory, stores everything you said/typed, and waits for people to come up to it so it can show them something that may or may not be cool. That’s when you get more friends readers. They start to comment and your friend, the blog, is now the middleman between you and the outside world.
Web 3.0 will make the blog play catch with you. We all look forward to it.
